Description
I opened the curtain, and what did I see? A Northern Goshawk having breakfast in my backyard. Some bird books consider the Northern goshawk secretive. They are diurnal, and hangout in the northern forests. They visit my place a lot, swooping low over the pasture and washes; I have a bunch of pigeons that I can't get rid of in a ranch shed, and the goshawk seems to watch for them, as with this breakfast. ++++
Goshawks are the only accipiter to live in North America and Eurasia. Wingspan is usually greater than 3 feet and they feed on small birds and rodents. I was glad this one hadn't taken one of the cottontails that live under my porch.
