Description
My winter view of a small portion of Montana's Quake Lake, with late-afternoon shadows strong on the snow from the dead trees.
Quake Lake in the Madison Canyon River Area, near West Yellowstone, Montana U.S.A., was created after an earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter Scale struck on August 17, 1959. Thirty-three people were killed in ensuing landslides and flooding when the Hebgen Dam cracked. Quake Lake is 190 feet deep and 6 miles long. Quake Lake flooded much of the former Madison River canyon, and thousands of dead trees poke up through the water.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
