Description
I digitally augmented the subjects, and then painted (digitally) an outdoor scene behind them. I took this original photo in an indoor arena (back in film days) when these young bison (3-4 years old) were stirring up dust for an appreciative rodeo audience. They seemed to know their job, and never failed to entertain. When not in the arena, they stayed in a sturdy pen. I took many pictures at rodeos by the same rodeo producer, so got to know "the boys," as they were called. One, in particular, liked to chew on leather, and would grab jackets or chaps left on the rails of the pen. I once felt a nudge when I was hunkered down to get some bronc shots, and looked around to find this huge nose trying to push me aside so it could grab my camera bag. My first thought was to smack that nose, as I would a dog or a horse, but I thought better of it as I stared at this head that was wider and taller than my torso. I simply moved the bag and myself to a greater distance from the pen.
