Freezout Lake is a Montana Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in a major wild bird migration route. Each spring the birds congregate to rest from their flights and to eat in the many fields surrounding the WMA. Snow Geese make up the majority of these migrators; they flock to the area in the tens of thousands. Trumpeter Swans also stop at Freezout. This group of swans was descending on one of the ponds on the morning of 1 April 2019. I was happy to be there.
