Artist's Description

Sandhill Cranes often visit my high-plains prairie land (Montana) Image shot from my front deck using Nikon D610 with 500mm lens.
Sandhill Cranes are common in prairies and fields. I usually see them closer to irrigation points and marshes, not on my place which has no irrigation and is a good four miles (as the crane flies) from the lake. Sandhill Cranes are one of the oldest species of birds on the planet. In Nebraska Fossils of them have been found that are more than 9 million years old. The cranes stand upwards of three feet and have a wingspan of 80 or so inches. Small rodents, frogs and insects are their food.

Digital painting and graphic art techniques developed when working with authors to create covers for their books. I apply these skills to many of my images. The bulk of my PHOTOGRAPHY deals with rural enterprise and activities. If you are interested in those subjects (with a western flair) please visit my...
