Description
This was one of the very first projects I did in the mid-1990s. I was shooting rodeo at that time, and one of the rodeo producers asked if I could put together a program for his next rodeo season. I had 2-3 years of images from the Lone Star Rodeo Company; I had also published a feature spread on his family in Pro Rodeo World, the monthly IPRA magazine for which I was a stringer.
The program is 36 pages, with glossary of terms, history and information about each rodeo event and a schedule. Pictures with each section. I even developed the sponsors ad for the back of the cover. I also did a tri-fold brochure for them.
Digital technology wasn't terribly developed, and I didn't have a state-of-the-art computer system. The graphics software I used was rudimentary; I had to ship everything to a printer with color separation already done (or the cost would have been more); go to the printers to proof, make corrections, etc. What I can now do in 2-3 days on my office computer took more than two weeks and several bits of travel.
This early effort invigorated me to learn more about the process of publishing, and I have since produce book covers for many national authors.
