A magpie in my back yard, and sunlight shows the shimmer of its irridescent black/blue wing feathers. Some people consider magpies a nusiance. I like them.
Magpies are in the Corvidae family, which includes, crows, jays and others. They are considered to be quite intelligent. This is a black-billed magpie (Pica hudsonia) and found throughout western states.
