Description
This Nothern Flicker decided to rest on one of my deck posts. It stayed for quite a while and I captured several portraits of it. It was pretty cold out, and its fluffled up its feathers, making it seem fat.
Although in the woodpecker family, the Northern Flickers have a black-and-brown barred back and wings, and a gray nape. It is a resident from the U.S.-Canada border southward, and the northernmost birds are migratory. Preferred habitats include forest edges and open woodlands approaching savannas.
This is the fifth unique bird species to stop by my deck. Not sure why. Maybe because I usually have music going inside--classical, jazz, Latin. Are they listening? A jackrabbit that lived under the deck really like classical music. :)

This bird looks so warm in it's feather coat Kae! :-) Beautiful winter scene! F

Thanks for your comment, Joan. Yes, he was fluffed up against the cold. Makes him look pudgier than Flickers are. :)
