Description
I watch a lot of horse events on TV and one of my favorites is the cross-country leg of the three-day eventing competitions. This is my paint-roller art of a horse and rider on course, hurtling one fence and headed for the water obstacle. Paint roller art can be demanding because the "brush" doesn't always maintain a firm line. I like the challenge, and the naif presentation of the final image.
I trained one of my horses for endurance events--much different from 3-day events. My mare and I moved through natural terrain at a sedate 8 mph, but over a distance of 15 - 25 miles (3 - 4 hours). In the event cross-country competitions competitors dash along at 35 - 45 mph over natural terrain with sixteen or more man-made obstacles to traverse. The cross-country event is usually between 3 and 6 miles, depending on the course, and the longest course I've seen (6 miles) was completed within 12 minutes. The idea of speed doesn't bothered me, but the steeplechase aspects....NOT. I enjoy watching these outstanding 4-legged athletes with their 2-legged partners.
