Description
This is Maya, a Camelot Macaw. Maya weighs upwards of 2 pounds, and is more than 30 inches tail-tip to top of head. She is 14 years old and has been with her human family for 13 years.
Macaws are omnivores that can live up to 60 years in the wild. They congregate in flocks. The Camelot Macaw is an F2 (second generation) hybrid: a cross between a Catalina (also a hybrid) Macaw and a Scarlet Macaw. The hybrids don't have true scientific names, therefore the Camelot is denoted by Ara macao/Ara ararauna x Ara macao. More than 35 different macaw hybrids have occurred.
