Description
Black Swans are endemic water birds of Australia, but have been introduced in many areas as ornamental birds in parks, gardens, zoos and aviaries. I took this image in Gibson Park, Great Falls, Montana.

In the wild, black swans will gather in flocks of thousands. They are ~48 inches long with 70-inch wingspan.
These are monogamous birds believed to mate for life with strong pair bonds, which has me worried for this creature in Montana; his mate died during the winter. The pond at Gibson Park has many other water fowl, and this Black Swan didn't exhibit signs of distress; only time will tell. A re-visit in 2017 and there were no black swans. Hopefully this one was relocated to somewhere it could find a mate.
