Artist's Description
The state flower of Montana is the bitterroot. It blooms in other western states, too, in late spring. I have a lot growing on my place. It prefers gravelly areas and is low to the ground. The flower diameter is about the size of a quarter. Often all the bus open ain close sequence and make a lovely array. The plant is easy to miss before the flowers open. Bitterroot is an ornamental succulent plant of the purslane family.
