Description
Beginning in late June, Prickly Pear cactus grows on my place and throughout the Helena Valley of Montana. The major creek that runs through the area is Prickly Pear Creek. Although the plant can be a nuisance, the flowers are quite lovely. The buds are favored by pronghorn and deer; ants like them, too.

Great depth of field. Just be careful picking the flowers.
Kae Cheatham replied:
Thanks for the comment, Dick, and I leave the flower picking to the pronghorns, who like them.

It's always amazed me how something so prickly can produce such a glorious flower. Great image for a greeting card.
